While this route is far from a Mountain Bike Track - The Summit rd is a well used training zone for road cyclists and mountain bikers, and this alone makes it worth mentioning.
The Summit Road is a sealed road that runs across the tops of the Port Hills. It is a main feature of many of the Port Hills Tracks - Many tracks either start from or finish on the Summit Rd.
It is an easy road to ride, no technical skill is required at all - though a rider will need reasonable endurance to ride the 24km.
This track describes traversing the Summit Rd from the bottom of Dyers Pass Rd to Sumner Beach. It does not to describe the other Eastern Half of the Summit Road.
Dyers Pass Road starts at the Southern end of Columbo street, with the Dyers Pass round-about.
Ride up Dyers Pass Road until "The Sign of the Kiwi" - this is a well known cafe - and is aproximately 5.6Km from the round-about.
At the Sign of the Kiwi, turn Left (East) onto the Summit Rd.
Ride along the Summit Rd for 14.6 km untill you reach Evans Pass. This is an four way intersection.
Turn left (West/Downhill) and ride down the Evans Pass Rd into Sumner.
