The Bownvale Valley track was given a refresher in 2007: New sections of single track were constructed to replace the Spray Track and some of the steeper sections. As a result this track is now much more rideable for the average mountain biker. However, it is still a challenging ride.
For a good hill climb: This track starts from the car park, that's at the end of Bowenvale Avenue, in Cashmere and finishes just under Mount Vernon, at the start of the Bowenvale Transverse. From the Car park, follow the gravel road up about 200 meters from the first gate. Be on the look out for downhillers and other mountain bikers finishing their descent from Victoria Park, as this road is a fun fast ride down. Turn left up the hill, and follow the single track: negotiating hairpin bends; big steps and Scottish thistles, until you reach the 4WD Track. The start of the Track Snakes up the hill The 4WD track starts just under the first power pylon you encounter and continues up to the Huntsbury Track, follow the 4WD track upwards all the way to the Summit Road. If you are not fit: Be prepared to push! If you are fit: Be prepared to push! This is a steep road! The track finishes just under the Summut Road, here you can join up with the start of the Bowenvale Transverse, or turn round for a thrilling ride down the track you just rode up. NotesThis track is sign posted as "Black Diamond". It is a tricky ride: if it is your first time going down, stick to the 4WD track, there are a few sections of single track that bypass some of the 4WD track: These are for hardy individuals, leave them alone. |
